(Anonymous) 2018-10-17 01:00 am (UTC)(link)The period of time ~my source~ was telling me about was pretty early in SPN's run - I guess probably around S3-ish? What he told me was that the guy from the CW's failed Aquaman show was using because he felt like he really needed to bulk up to play Aquaman. And he and JP would work out together, and they were both pretty competitive about their gains, which lead to JP going overboard for a bit. Which makes sense because that was around the time when JP's size increased from tall, slim dude who's gaining some muscle, to guy who is built like a monster truck.
But, I mean, I definitely don't count any of this as certain fact. I'm about 95% sure my source wasn't making it all up. The basics are probably accurate, IMO. But there may also be set gossip and speculation mixed in there.

I've not seen the show in a while, so not sure is he is still a brick house.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-17 01:34 am (UTC)(link)I don't recall seeing JP looking obviously smaller over time. But I hear maintaining is easier than building, so it doesn't seem impossible that he could be maintaining naturally. Also, when he was at his biggest, they were probably struggling to make him look a little less massive on screen. Because contrary to what most people probably think, it's definitely possible for a male actor to get bigger than desired. (I mean, probably not if you're playing Thor or whatever, but Sam was obviously not originally conceived of as an extremely muscular character.)
