I mean, it makes sense. Especially like how he looked in season 6.

And HGH would make more sense because while he is muscular, it is more slim. Steroids have a very distinct looking bulk.

I've not seen the show in a while, so not sure is he is still a brick house.

Yeah, I haven't watched the show in a long time. I'm not actually an avid fan of SPN, although I enjoyed the early seasons I did watch.

I don't recall seeing JP looking obviously smaller over time. But I hear maintaining is easier than building, so it doesn't seem impossible that he could be maintaining naturally. Also, when he was at his biggest, they were probably struggling to make him look a little less massive on screen. Because contrary to what most people probably think, it's definitely possible for a male actor to get bigger than desired. (I mean, probably not if you're playing Thor or whatever, but Sam was obviously not originally conceived of as an extremely muscular character.)
