Forbidding a kid from watching a movie won't shield them from its messages. If the message of Cinderella and The Little Mermaid was really "women need men" (which it's not) not letting her kid watch them won't prevent them from hearing that message other places, like oh, real life. What it will do is make the kid want to watch the movies even more and resent the fact that she didn't allow it.

OK, but that doesn't mean that you have to affirmatively choose to show your kid the movie.

Kids need to learn about the gritty life of smack addicts somewhere so I guess I should probably show them Trainspotting

The toilet scene in Trainspotting is actually the reason I've never tried heroin.

the real moral of Trainspotting is junkies have better taste in music than ex-junkies

Disney cartoon movies made for kids is comparable to Trainspotting... how?

Yup, if a film is made for kids, you legally have to show it to them. That's just parenting 101.
