IDK. I feel like, with video games as a genre and the position they're in right now, I'd rather get something that's creatively interesting and experimental, even if it's totally messy and unedited. That's more important to me than tightness and precision.

OP

I could do creative and experimental. The problem is that Kojima is that guy who can't stop putting any idea he thinks of into his stories, to the point that you have ten thousand plot lines that never go anywhere and ends up completely unsatisfying, while being so artsy it's not even fun.

I'm just going to be somewhat surprised if Death Stranding is actually published.

This.

that's what i'm thinking too tbh, he strikes me as a nightmare to work with in general. it kind of reminds me of the stories i've heard about crytek where you literally got the big important guys swooping into your project, throwing ideas into the room and then leaving you to puzzle out whether they seriously want you to start putting work into that or not.

i don't think AAA game development is a suitable space for artsy free spirits. not because it doesn't sell, or it's not good to take risks, but because the bigger the project the harder it is to change things as time goes on. if you keep coming up with great new ideas you just condemn your project to development hell.

BUT i could be entirely wrong of course, i have to admit i don't know much about him except what i've picked up on the fringes, which paints him as pretty chaotic.

But his MGS games are good. And Zone of the Enders.

And how many of those had someone editing the ideas down into something else. If he worked on a team as part of another company, he had editors keeping him down to earth.

Kojima shouldn't be allowed to write women characters unless we get another scantily clad mute preteen who needs to be nearly naked in order to breathe. Looking at you, MGSV.

I imagine Kojima without editors reigning him in would be like George Lucas' Star Wars prequels.

Same anon.

Meant to say "lest" or "or else" instead of "unless".

I know nothing about this person or this 'verse. All i gotta say is - damn, he needs better fitting glasses!

Hideo Kojima, aka the guy behind Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-22 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh, he's got nothing to do with Silent Hill, other than the fact that he was working at one now canceled entry in the series before he got the boot from Konami

(Anonymous) 2018-10-22 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Could have sworn he had input on some of the earlier symbolism in the series.
