Holy shit, yes. Especially to the second one.

Not to shit on your passion for voting, but I'm being completely honest with you when I say that being forced to vote would end up with me filling in votes like a kid who doesn't know what test answers to pick. Check off the first row and hope for the best. Do you really want people like that swaying a botw with no knowledge?

Vote* I'm on mobile, sorry

Well, I’d hope most people who didn’t want to vote would just turn in a spoiled ballot—draw a dick on it and call it a day, or whatever.

But I’d also hope that everyone who has an opinion but thinks voting is too much trouble would vote, and most importantly, efforts to disenfranchise people (usually poor POC, students, and other likely democratic voters) wouldn’t be able to get anywhere.

Which is vastly preferable to the current all-but-declared Republican position that only middle-aged white people, rich people, and conservative retirees should vote. So far this election cycle there’s been highly publicized, mostly successful efforts to prevent black people (in Georgia) and Native Americans (in North Dakota) from voting.

Ballots could come with a "no opinion" or "choose not to vote" option for each contest on the sheet. I always check a sample ballot at least the night before the election, if not a bit earlier, to see what I'm expected to vote on and then do a little basic internet research on the contests where I don't already have an opinion and any referendums I don't fully understand, and make a choice. In the age of the internet, it doesn't take a lot of my time to come to a conclusion, so it really shouldn't be that hard for most people to do a bit better than just picking whatever name sounds cool (which is totally what I did when my mom took me to vote for the first time when I was 18). Still, there are often a lot of local contests I just don't care that much about and wouldn't mind having the option of expressing that I don't care.

This is a system that actually already exists - voting is mandatory in Australia. As far as I can tell, it doesn't seem to make any particular difference in outcomes, but I'm not an expert on Australian politics.

It’s not so much the difference in outcomes per se that makes me wish for it; it’s that mandatory voting would de facto outlaw disenfranchising voters, which is a favorite US Republican tactic.
