I don't think it's like... "I can use the N word because it's in that song lyric!" red flag level, but the only people I've seem to use the word ethnic as a descriptor seem like the kind of people who say things like, "You know, the Oriental woman!"

You mean the kind that say "minorities" in that sort of hushed tone like maybe that Brazilian family in front of them doesn't realize they're not white?

Interesting. IME as a POC, people who use terms like "oriental" to describe people generally fail to grasp what "ethnic" even means, much less use it.
