Obesity isn't genetic. Lifestyle, on the other hand, is.

Except... genetics do play a role in obesity? It's not usually the sole contributing factor, but to say it doesn't at all is a lie.

This. There are so many things that play a role. It is not really cut and dry. Medication can cause weight gain. Mental illness can cause weight gain. Some physical ailments cause weight gain. And yes, genetics can play a part.
