Tumblr's not crazy active anymore, either. IG is the new fandom hot spot.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-26 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
what's IG?

(Anonymous) 2018-10-26 12:40 am (UTC)(link)

How can you do fannish things on Instagram? I mean, fan art, sure, but anything else....?

(Anonymous) 2018-10-26 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Boy is Tumblr goes out, I guess I am out of fandom forever. :(

Me too.

>IG is the new fandom hot spot

I'm sorry, what?

(Anonymous) 2018-10-26 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
I feel like this is the point where it gets tricky to talk about "fandom" like it's one discrete thing

Maybe that's actually just no longer possible to do in any meaningful sense, maybe there are just a million different versions of fandom all existing at the same time as each other, but I reject the idea that Instagram could be a central hub for fandom. Stan culture, yes, absolutely.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-26 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Stan culture?

(Anonymous) 2018-10-26 09:31 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. If this is what "fandom" is these days... *shudders*

(Anonymous) 2018-10-26 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
How does one do anything fandomy on IG?

I miss blog-style, forum-style fandom.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-26 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
I have no idea. People just seem to post anime screen grabs and talk about how hot the characters are.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-26 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
...soooo, it's the same as tumblr?

How dull.

Isn't Instragram just pictures? Or is there actually a way on there to talk about things?

(Anonymous) 2018-10-26 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
there's comments but AFAIK it's not designed around sharing that side of it

Follow some actors and they do vids every now and then. Follow some fan artists who post their work there, but not much else.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-26 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
It's really not though. Unless you count people reposting and ripping off fanart and cosplay pictures.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-26 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
I guess Instagram is for everything now. Someone told me people are switching to using it for posting nudes now instead of Snapchat. That sounds like a terrible idea but whatever.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-26 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
Wow I'm so glad fandom just keeps getting more and more narrow in terms of accessibility and how disabled people can contribute.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-26 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
I fail to see how a site the knocks out all the written parts of fandom (fanfic, meta, rp, etc) and specializes only in pictures stolen from fan artists and reblogged without acknowledgement is the 'hot spot' of anything.

I don't know any fandoms on instagram, most of my fandom friends have migrated to twitter exclusively-- most japanese fanartists are on twitter too
