Tumblr's not crazy active anymore, either. IG is the new fandom hot spot.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-26 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
what's IG?

(Anonymous) 2018-10-26 12:40 am (UTC)(link)

>IG is the new fandom hot spot

I'm sorry, what?

(Anonymous) 2018-10-26 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
I feel like this is the point where it gets tricky to talk about "fandom" like it's one discrete thing

Maybe that's actually just no longer possible to do in any meaningful sense, maybe there are just a million different versions of fandom all existing at the same time as each other, but I reject the idea that Instagram could be a central hub for fandom. Stan culture, yes, absolutely.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-26 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Stan culture?

How does one do anything fandomy on IG?

I miss blog-style, forum-style fandom.

Isn't Instragram just pictures? Or is there actually a way on there to talk about things?

It's really not though. Unless you count people reposting and ripping off fanart and cosplay pictures.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-26 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
I guess Instagram is for everything now. Someone told me people are switching to using it for posting nudes now instead of Snapchat. That sounds like a terrible idea but whatever.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-26 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
Wow I'm so glad fandom just keeps getting more and more narrow in terms of accessibility and how disabled people can contribute.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-26 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
I fail to see how a site the knocks out all the written parts of fandom (fanfic, meta, rp, etc) and specializes only in pictures stolen from fan artists and reblogged without acknowledgement is the 'hot spot' of anything.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-26 09:26 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know any fandoms on instagram, most of my fandom friends have migrated to twitter exclusively-- most japanese fanartists are on twitter too

(Anonymous) 2018-10-26 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
*sigh* I hear you, OP. I miss it for non-fandom interactions, too. I used to chat with a nice group of people regularly about every day stuff and it was fun. :(

(Anonymous) 2018-10-26 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Gah, I miss kink memes so MUCH. There's a few still sort of trying to operate here on DW, but AFAIK they're just cesspools of prompts, no fills.

What the hell, fandom? Where'd you go? Why'd you leave?

Well, tumblr is indeed dying and people are moving to twitter/discord/any other place. I miss kinkmemes, discussion and meta but I can't see them returning any time soon. Hope I'm wrong, though.

this is why cool kids have started blogs at pillowfort.io

rejoice in having communities and actual conversations again!

Tumblr is fine for art, but I would not post fic there. Never did, never will. Did try it for awhile, but got bored and wander on.

Wish LJ would come back. You could post art, fic, of any age level, from gen to explicit, and discuss it and also discuss the shows/movies that inspired it. Plus the memes etc.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-26 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
This. Livejournal, despite the occasional wank, was much friendlier, too; Tumblr always seems to be full of aggression. Plus posting content on lj got replies, whereas tumblr and even ao3 get very little nowadays.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-26 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
The whole internet is more aggressive than it was 10 years ago. The world is more aggressive than it was 10 years ago.

Agreed. I have a tumblr but don't post anything there. I do keep up with fandom friends on twitter and other places, but it's not the same, and our friendships all started and solidified on LJ. I miss having forums and fandom-specific communities. And AO3 is great for reading fic, but it doesn't have the same interaction on it. Idk, everyone made the jump to tumblr about the time I was going through a lot of RL stuff, and I feel like I've just been out of it since.
