My understanding is the Rose-hate is mostly shipping related. People who wanted Finn/Rey are upset that her presence can get in the way of that. Also, general racism too.

On the less batshit crazy side, a lot of people thought the kiss was awkward. And the Canto Bight subplot is one area that many people did not like for slowing down the movie and since she was a part of that, that's another reason people didn't warm to her.

I admit, them running off to some random planet in the middle of a slo-mo death march is weird ,but honestly - Star Wars has been doing that kind of stupid stuff forever.

Racism tops my list of 'why people hated her'. That and she wasn't the Asian equivalent of the bad-ass bitch with long hair big boobs.

Yeah, there are people wishing that her sister had been cast as Rose instead because she was supposedly a better actress - her sister being played by a much more conventionally attractive actress but who actually had no lines in the movie.

I think racism is a huge component but I don't think you can underestimate how big shipping is either. The Reylo/anti-Reylo thing has made the Sequel Trilogy part of SW pretty much a no-go for many fans.

I have never understood that kind of rabid shipping nonsense. I mean - sure, i have my 'druthers for who should be with who, but i would never get up in the *actor's* face about it, and it's a fucking MOVIE - good lord, ship who you like!

I think the ...um...the guy half of Reylo is an unattractive actor and a shitty, shitty character (for so many reasons - just how many temper tantrums must i witness?) but again - screaming hate at Rose/the actor isn't gonna change the damn movie.

Lord, I hate people so much.

I also don't understand shipping that gets to that level either, and I certainly don't get the appeal of having a ship be canon. Canon only ruins ships in my experience.

I dislike pointing out Adam Driver's looks in the context of this conversation, especially as you've been pointing out that people finding Kelly Marie Tran unattractive is partly why she's been shit on. People who are anti-Reylo have said such vile things about Adam Driver too. I get not liking his character or not finding him attractive but I think it's bad form to bring it up in comparison to Kelly Marie Tran here.

Well, possibly. He's very not my type, and his character pretty much ruins any attractiveness the man himself might have, for me.

Which is why Rose is so fucking *adorable* and yes, pretty, because she's so hopeful and compassionate and pure.

NAYRT—I actually find Adam Driver as Kylo Ren really physically attractive while also desperately wishing Kylo Ren would get blown to smithereens in the next movie because holy shit he’s horrifying. And I was underwhelmed by Rose’s plot but still loved Rose’s character, and people who objected to Rose based on her looks/ethnicity can choke.

It makes sense, to me, to have Rey off with him, trying to bring him over to the 'light' and such. To me, i mean. And Finn needed someone to make him not be a doufus, heh, so Rose works. She's practical and gets the job done.

I have read so many comments lately - about her and other characters - that basically say that 'all these non-white characters are in my movie because of libtards and PC SHIT!!!!', foaming and flailing and it's just *baffling*. WTF, you really can't enjoy anything if some of the people aren't white and/or fulfilling your stereotypical fantasies? Fuck off.

IMO the kiss was awkward, and I have ships in this game. I'm not sure if it was a chemistry issue or crappy direction or both,but I thought it lacked the passion that the moment was clearly calling for.

Sure, but it's not like being in a horrible crash is a realistic set up for a kiss, period. If they're already going to handwave that part, might as well make it a good kiss instead of an awkward little chicken peck. And tbh, the fact that she goes limp immediately after was so unexpected that I busted out into nervous giggles. Suuuuper awkward.

I have no idea what would be "realistic" but I think it's fair to say Rose understandably didn't have the wherewithal at that moment to make it a good kiss. I think latching onto someone and passionately kissing them without preamble when you don't know if they return your feelings is rude, anyway. A lesser kiss is better to start with. It was also awkward because Finn didn't really react, but he was too surprised by a kiss out of the blue and worried about her injuries to have much of a reaction.
