Re: Confessions (fandom or not fandom related)

I love my friends but wish more of them were single and childless. Most of them can never do anything outside of scheduled group stuff because they don't have anyone to watch the kids or they and their SOs are busy visiting the in-laws. Totally understandable, I'd just like more people who actually have time to do things more than once every three months.

Three of my close friends got married in the last month, and they're still in the honeymoon phase. They want to watch Netflix with their hubbies, and I'm over in my corner like, "Someone plz entertain me for Halloween. I want to put on a costume and be seen in public."

I've been in the same situation and I feel you, anon. It's a small comfort that it's nothing personal, it's just... their lives and priorities have changed so much. I've tried to keep up with friends who had kids, I go by their schedules, I listen to endless cute kid stories and whatever but the friendship just faded anyway because they just didn't have time for non-family stuff.

I never used to think about my affinity for befriending people my parents' age as a particular benefit before, haha. They've all got grown children and are so long since settled with their partners that it took me half a year to realise one of them was married at all. I've met them all through work, so we definitely have some degree of overlapping interests too.

ugh I feel you so hard, anon. we had a big fun group who all hung out and cosplayed together and now the parents and wannabe-parents are just too busy to have fun. and they also feel bad because their hectic lives actually suck and they want to go back to being single and carefree. nobody wins.

This comment is so weird. All your previously fun friends now regret having relationships and families because that sucks so much more than hanging out with you? Sounds like you're trying to make yourself feel a bit better there nonny.

I feel you as well, anon. I love my friends and their kids are great, but I miss the days when we could just drop everything and go to a concert or Disneyland. My best friend and I had planned to go to London a couple of years ago, but she ended up getting pregnant and couldn't go. I was happy for her because she's always wanted to be a mom and her kid's a sweetheart, but he's on the low end of the spectrum and we usually end up hanging at her house because he's not at a point where he can tolerate being at the mall or restaurants for long periods of time yet. I don't mind it too much, but I feel kinda wistful 'cause we probably won't be going to London or anywhere else for a very long time.

That sucks and I've been there, although there's not a whole lot you can do about the childcare thing. If you don't have a problem with the kids, you can always do child-friendly stuff together and bring the kids along. Personally, I love doing things like going to the zoo or the science museum.

I can't identify with the always visiting in-laws bit, since while I'm close to my parents, they live a 6-hour drive away and I can't visit them all the time and I don't see why anyone would need to see theirs every other weekend. I think 254 miles (distance to the ISS) is the minimum appropriate distance for inlaws.
