Yeah, I'm going to go with "this guy is not actually your friend". I don't care if you've got a face like roadkill, that was cruel and unnecessary and someone who likes you and cares about you is not going to say that.

I dunno, how about "I'm not personally attracted to you but that does not rule out someone else thinking you're totally hot"? Bonus of "You can't base your attractiveness/self worth on whether or not I'm interested"?

If someone you weren't attracted to asked you if you thought they were pretty/handsome, would you think it was perfectly fine to tell them they were unattractive?

Depends. I think if someone who knew I'm not into them asked me that question several times already (which it sounds like she did) I'd get fed up with it as well and stop being nice about it.

To answer your question: yeah, it doesn't matter if I'm attracted to someone or not. I'd just tell them the truth if they asked me about their looks.

Did he say that you were unattractive, or that he didn't find you attractive, because those are not the same thing. Either way, you need to start hanging out with other people and stop hitting on your friend. He's possibly an asshole and definitely not interested in you.

NAYRT but... asking someone you're in love with things like, "Do you think I'm attractive?" is not really dialing back your feelings imo. I know it's hard to turn off how you feel about someone, especially if you're friends, but, maybe you need to take a break from him. His response was a bit dickish if what you're saying he said is verbatim, but maybe he's frustrated and unsure of how to keep gently pushing you away when you have feelings he can't reciprocate?

Not only was I trying to see if he thought I was pretty but I was also trying to gauge my attractiveness in general against other women.

a) It sounds like your friendship (though I hesitate to call it that) with this guy is a bit borderline toxic. To me it's sounds like putting a poisoned cookie in front of someone who's decided they're going to cut sugar out of their lives. They know it's bad for them, but they still keep looking at it and wanting it, because it's there and it's forbidden.

b) please don't gauge your attractiveness against other people. It never ends well because everyone finds different things attractive and there's not one single standard for what someone else might like about you.
