Re: Confessions (fandom or not fandom related)

I get really annoyed when people my age don't know things and use the excuse "oh, it's before my time, teehee!" It sometimes seems like they've grown up in a cabin in the forest with no technology or something. I mean, I get not knowing some obscure public figure from decades ago, but never having heard of some insanely famous singer or band just because they were popular before you were born makes no sense to me. Like, do you not pay attention to pop culture at all? Do you not talk to your parents about the stuff they liked when they were young?

And although that's annoying, it's of course nothing compared to not knowing anything about major important historical events. The amount of people I've heard saying "so what's the deal with that Nixon guy?" in the past few months (when it's come up in comparison to the current situation in the US) is really frustrating. And I understand there are plenty of schools that are not great, but if you didn't learn in school, do some research! Don't brag about your ignorance. "But it happened before I was born, why should I care?" *headdesk*

And just ignorance in general, really. Like current stuff, where they don't even have the excuse of 'it happened before I was born. "Why do I keep hearing about some dude named Kavanaugh, what's the deal with that?" Gahhh! Pay attention!

JUST BECAUSE WE'RE MILLENIALS DOESN'T MEAN WE HAVE TO BE MORONS.

Many of us don't, no. They have no desire to learn about our interests or share their old interests with us.

Most people don't care about stuff like that. They just don't. We're weirdos for caring about it. It's not even specific to millenials, it's just that they're younger and so the stuff millenials don't know is more recent. People don't give a shit. At least not in America.

ayrt

That's just crazy to me. I get that not everyone are political junkies like my family but to not even know basic stuff about what's going on in the world is just baffling to me.

My parents talked to me about the pop culture they grew up with and singers and movies they liked, but no, I don't always understand what people are referencing in US pop culture because my parents grew up in a different country.
