Sure, fandom is a little more mainstream nowadays, but OP is right: If you told someone randomly about your A/B/O Teen Wolf fanfic you'd be looked at like you had three heads. It's still not there like football or reality shows.

If a football fan randomly told someone about their highly specific and detailed sexual fantasies about Rob Gronkowski, they'd get the same response. Fuck, if you randomly told half of the people who write smutty fanfic about your A/B/O Teen Wolf fanfic you'd get the same response. Fandom's about more than kink, and randomly telling people about your kinks when they aren't interested is poor behavior no matter what they are.
