It seems so obvious when you say it, but... yeah, that's when I most enjoyed writing fic, too. I started writing fanfiction on a whim, not really knowing much about the fandom's preferences or anything about fandom culture at all, to be honest. I had no idea what "canon" meant or the idea that people would have "ships" and "shipping preferences" or that there'd be a lot of people who react negatively to original characters. I just decided to do it for fun.
