Where's a good place to read up on the game's lore?

If you've seen some of the game, I feel like Game Theorists' FNAF, The FINAL Theory (<--video title) 2 parter is a good place to start. Some of it is a little outdated, and I'm not sure how easy it would be to follow if you haven't seen/played the rest of the games, but it summarizes my own personal take on the lore pretty well. After that I guess I just sort of read through the subreddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/fivenightsatfreddys/) via flair (search by flair:Discussion, flair:Speculation, etc)? There's not really THAT much to it, despite what some people will tell you. It's still fun though.

Nayrt

I second this, anon. GameTheory's videos about the series are really in-depth & include details from the novels in addition to the games. GameTheory is the only reason I know anything about Five Nights at Freddy's & Sister Location.

Thank you for the detailed response! :D Now I can get to know what all the hype was all about.

There are novels, I guess.

oh no no no the novels are...really weird. i don't know whether they're actually good reads or not, but the lore you get in the book is separate from the games (word of god aka the dev) and really sort of completely out there.

They're not that bad. I like that the creator doesn't treat it like some masterpiece and lets them go on deep, deep sales fairly fast so they're pretty cheap often, and two completely free games with what I see as an apology for baiting the the fan base more than he meant to earned a lot of points with me.

Sister Location felt like the most complete game to me though, and because of that it's my favorite, but naturally the fan reaction is it's generally people's least favorite, lol. It did kind of bring the story into another direction, but I don't know, I feel like it completed the story. Sure there's some loose ends people still spectulate over, but the story's complete to me, and I don't care much about the minor details that still need lining up.

Compared to its many, many copies and other indie horror games that try to tell a story the same way (Hello Neighbor, more recently Bendy...hmm, not sure what else is there), I think it did a great job telling its story just the right way, and looking at its cousins, it's really much easier said than done. Gotta give kudos where they're due.

It's funny you used that art to make your point, 'cause I felt like Sister Location was where the gameplay finally kind of got it. That was the first one for me that actually felt fun. I forgave the first one for a lot because it was such a new concept and it was pretty much made by one dude, but the next three just kind of kept getting more and more disjointed and stale. Sister Location felt like he'd actually got his shit together.

That said, maybe watch the Markiplier playthroughs? He's definitely been the most thorough about them, and that way you can enjoy the important parts while not actually having to play them yourself.

I was definitely into the lore behind the games more than the games themselves, but I didn't hate them either, they were perfectly fine for what they were and a few were pretty good.

It is hard to keep the kind of game-play they have fresh and new each installment but I always felt that the creator at least tried to do that.

I'm feeling this secret pretty hard if only because these are the exact kind of games I can't really play, but the lore has been great to read up on.

Oh man, my love for the FNAF lore knows no bounds. I have never played a single one of the games because I am a huge coward when it comes to jump scares, but I greedily watched Markiplier and Dawko and The Game Theorists videos
