One of the problems with many comic books and TV shows (and accordingly, TV shows sourced from comic books) is that they're written without an end point in mind, so they just go on and on and on and on, and the stakes are raised higher and higher, and every time the characters get some happiness it gets taken away in three chapters/episodes because Happiness Is Boring.
I like a lot of comics, but the endless fucking grind of it all wears thin quite quickly.

I always liked that personally.

For me, not everything needs to be a complete, coherent, unitary whole. It's OK to have stories that go on and on, that you dip in and out of, that you stop or start watching.

I don't mind episodic works at all! Actually, I love them! 'Monster of the week' style cartoons, procedural crime dramas, a lot of sitcoms - stand alone episodes are my jam.
Something like Supernatural, though, where the writers killed Satan, brought in Satan's Totally Eviler Brother Steve, killed *him*, brought back Satan, beat Satan, and at this point is it actually possible to give the slightest of shits about what The Actual Devil and Prince of Lies is doing? Really?

IDK, why not?

I hate when writers think the stakes have to constantly be raised. Coming across more problems is natural, having to solve different problems is great. But then there's the same problem, but BIGGER, or the same enemy, but BADDER, and it just feels like I'm getting the same story for more suffering for no reason. It also feels awful because I'm emotionally invested in these characters and it feels like they're telling me there's no possibility for them to be happy, and then what is the point?

AYRT - Yeah, absolutely. I stopped reading Saga because I liked the characters and was sick of watching their already shitty situation just get worse and worse. It was just exhausting!

There is nothing that they could possibly do that would prevent you from making that the ending in your mind. They can make another 15 seasons, and all you have to do to preserve the ending you want is just not watch them. I honestly don't get the issue.

Or you can stop watching it and headcanon season 3 as the season finale. Don't be a dick, it's not that hard

Season 3 did have an awesome ending- granted and it's nice to see Matt happy and with his friends again.
However, I would love to see more of Bullseye. I'd def watch another season to see what they do with him, as well as Sister Maggie.
Fisk is fantastic but not sure what else they could do with him without recycling the old storyline again (Fisk creating havoc and manipulating people).
But please, no more of the Hand!
I do know what you mean though, OP. Season 3 was sooooo friggen great! I would be scared another season could live up to its awesomeness!

I enjoyed S3 of DD but I don't want to see vanquished villains resurface after 5 minutes. I realize they do it in comics a lot, but on TV shows it's annoying bc the timescape is compressed. Some comic lines last for 50 years. Not so TV shows. If you can't come up with 8 villains total, that's pretty sad. This is esp. annoying since Vanessa Marianna was set up as the perfect continuation of the Fisk arc and instead they had her languishing in Spain or whatever for all but 2 eps of S3. She could have been the mastermind for all of S3 just as easily as Kingpin. Hell, it would have been more interesting bc Matt might have thought it was Fisk pulling the strings at first. Instead, they recycled.

Oh, I didn't think the whole season was perfect or anything, even though it was good enough. Vanessa definitely had a lot of wasted potential that can still be used, and really her motivation and thoughts thus far could use a lot more explanation. But, that ending is where I'd like to see things end just for once, at least in the secret corner of my heart. Openly I'd only admit I'm still somewhat interested in what they plan with Bullseye, and hoping they bring more non-vigilante/villain supporting cast in if the show continues.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Oh, I get you. I did really enjoy S3, I was just disappointed on that point.

Oh, I'm loving the idea of Vanessa being the mastermind behind season 3. Maybe they could use that in season 4, along with Bullseye? Or bring her up in season 5, after everyone's forgotten about her, & have everyone assume Fisk is up to his old shenanigans?

I now feel like it was a wasted opportunity that would have made season 3 even better, but I think they could still use it in a later season, depending on what else is going on, of course. I dunno. Maybe that wouldn't work at that point, maybe by then it would feel like same ol same ol.

Yeah, it's kind of a "have your cake and eat it too" situation. Doesn't quite work the same. But I still think she'd make an excellent villain. I find her as chilling as Fisk and want to more about her backstory.
