I like them shamey as hell! Not from the authorial viewpoint, but from the character themselves and other characters around them. And I don't like it when there's some deep psychological reason why they're doing this, just "I need money". Even better if it's to protect someone else from having to make the same choice. Supernatural used to be A+ for this.
