I mean did you see the pilot? There was a clear trend from the very beginning. The fridging, the madonna/whore dichotomy, etc.

Eh. They sort of had to kill at least two important people to get the ball rolling. The first had to be someone close to John. The second had to be someone close to Sam.

Listen, I understand the narrative function of fridging the two saintly women and juxtaposing them with a woman who killed her own children because her husband was cheating on her. But I'm still rolling my eyes, and you can't argue it sets a precedent that the show repeats over and over and over again.
