It's not that he misunderstands the concept of "strong woman". It's that the kind of woman you're describing is the kind of woman he wants to fuck. Same basic principle with Joss (slightly different details).

You say that like it's a bad thing.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-03 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Right, sure, it's not entirely a bad thing, but it is a bad thing when it's so consistent and so limiting and when you're creating something that's not supposed to be id-fic. You should be able to manage your dick's relationship with your writing better than that. It shouldn't get in the way, and I think it does for Moffat at times.

It's not bad to have a thing for a particular type of woman. It's when nearly all your heroines fit this type that characterization gets really homogeneous and a little bit boring. Not to mention the weirdness of being so damn thirsty you're only able to conceive of female characters as sexual fantasies and you're sharing that fantasy with the world without fully realizing that your thirst is so obvious.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-03 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, when it's not a character I get off of.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-04 09:57 am (UTC)(link)
it's a pretty bad thing if the only characters of the opposite sex you're able to write are the ones you personally want to fuck

+1

(Anonymous) 2018-11-04 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it possible he's capable of writing other types but doesn't want to?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-05 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL, this reach 'Obviously he has the talent to write fully realised characters, but just chooses not to for reasons.'

(Anonymous) 2018-11-03 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed. Both of them are really not subtle about their "type".

Don't forget Rian Johnson too. He, Moffat and Joss don't understand how to write women (or a good script)

(Anonymous) 2018-11-03 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know whether that's accurate as regards Rian Johnson, because I haven't watched any of his movies outside of Star Wars, but I don't think it's a problem in Star Wars.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-03 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
What? It's that trope down to a t in Star Wars.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-03 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
It's what trope? And if you're talking about Star Wars in general, what's Rian Johnson got to do with it, he made 1 Star Wars movie

(Anonymous) 2018-11-03 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
The "strong female character = sassy chick" trope. It's particularly in his Star Wars movie.
(Also really bad script bug hey.)

(Anonymous) 2018-11-03 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Fuck you autocorrect.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-03 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know if I agree with that

I mean, is it different than the norm for Star Wars?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-03 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
It's definitely stronger in TLJ (that movie generally has an annoyingly high rate of "Every line needs to be a snappy oneliner" soits notreally a surprise).

(Anonymous) 2018-11-03 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't that just Rian Johnson's writing style in general, not something specific to his work with female characters
