News at ten: people have different experiences from you.

In other news: you're an asshole.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-04 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
People do have different experiences, and people also have annoying affectations. Both of these things are true.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-04 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Assuming that all people who claim different experiences from you are all making an affectation though definitely makes you an asshole.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-04 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
So, then, we agree that in some cases things are a result of different experiences, and in some cases they're a result of an affectation.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-04 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Just keep rereading my comments if you're having trouble understanding me, shitstain. I'm done.

ayrt didn't do that, though. They very clearly pointed out that the two things could co-exist. Did you read their comment?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-05 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Which they are not doing. They are saying this particular claim is pretentious, and that is a reasonable opinion (with which some may agree, some may not).

*Someone* sounds as if the characters in their head are just a bit too real to them and they are way too defensive about it.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-04 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
+1 Exactly. This isn't hard.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-04 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I take it you're one of those incapable of controlling the direction of your own writing, then.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-04 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
AYRT nope, not even a writer. Just hate that kind of crass generalisation.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-04 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a generalization but I don't think it's an especially crass one.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-04 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh. Your opinion, my opinion.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-04 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Why does it affect you?

Most people who say the characters 'aren't cooperating' or whatever do make this weird excuse. It's less a 'crass generalisation' and more a commentary on finding the very common habit annoying.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-04 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"Most people"

lol

Yup, this.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-05 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
There's only one crass person ITT and it ain't OP.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-04 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh? like, when people say that line they have to be making a joke. Unless a character is acutlaly taking over their mind to write?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-04 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
experiences? no.

different ways to choose to word themselves when a story "gets away from them?" yes. different ways to present themselves to the rest of fandom? yes. but if you're trying to insinuate that you really do hear the voices and anyone who uses "don't blame me I write what they tell me to write" literally means it and anyone who disagrees is an asshole? no.

NAYRT

I've tried like five times and can't parse this comment. I'm gonna assume you're not making an actual attempt to engage with anyone on an honest or meaningful level here.

NAYRT

Lol! You're like the pot calling the vaguely grayish thing black with this one. AYRT's comment was ever so slightly confusing. I read it twice, to make sure I understood what they were saying. But here, let me help you:

We all have different ways of choosing to express out creative process, and that's valid. But contrary to your initial assertion, we don't all have different experiences when it comes to whether we literally hear our characters speaking to us and whether we experience out fictional creations as being in control of us. If someone literally hears their character speaking to them, or experiences the actual sensation of not being in control of what they do because their character has that control...that's not "potato potahto," that's a serious mental healthy problem.

I can't believe this is supposed to be a clarification lol.

So I think it makes more sense in the context of this conversation to set aside the people with Actual Mental Illness.

I think the question is best understood as basically: when people express their creative process in terms of their characters making decisions for them, is that an affectation, or is it a valid way to understand and express the creative process?

Takes one to know one because you're the biggest asshole on this page.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-05 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
People seem really triggered by me being annoyed by a mass generalisation. Especially as I only made four comments then went to bed lol.

Fandom secrets is such a ridiculous place these days. I think this might be the moment i'm actually done with it.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-05 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
tbh it sounds like you don't even go here lmao

like when was the last time you frequented fandomsecrets, five years ago?
