Re: What is something you purposely cook wrong/different from the directions?

I overcook salmon because I prefer the dry overcooked texture to the still squishy half raw texture it's supposed to be eaten at. Some other fish as well.

Thanks, I am!

Sense8
Grace and Frankie
Jessica Jones

A lot of people in Doctor Who fandom at the time seemed to be into it. That's how I discovered it.

I read The Belgariad in high school because a couple of friends loaned them to me and insisted they were really, really good. I didn't have the hesrt to tell them i found the books pretty bland. The books were good enough yo keep me reading the series, but not good enough to want to check out more of his work. I remember absolutely nothing about the story.

The previews set to music are dire. They make shows I know I love look unappealing.

Although compared to Piers Anthony, it's nothing. (Which is probably one reason why no-one noticed it was a bit creepy at the time).

(Anonymous) 2018-11-06 11:32 am (UTC)(link)
That's pretty much it.

There's no way to win.

It is weird thst he's one of the only heavy-handed stereotypes people get offended by though. Especially given the jews, the british, the gays, the smart, etc.

Me too! Some of its imagery has stayed in my head for weeks after I finished it. And went on a Mike Flanagan film binge.

Re: Do you enjoy schadenfreude?

Saturday was a beautiful day and everyone was out raking and blowing leaves and making their lawns look perfect and leaf-free... except me. Sunday was rainy and really windy and more leaves blew down from the trees and off of the leaf piles (and out from my yard) and now those perfect lawns look like mine again. :)

Nayrt

Isn't it just one monthly subscription for everything? When I had cable, I didn't care that there were bad shows on cable as long as there were good ones I wanted to watch to justify the cost. I also would just flip away from something if I wasn't enjoying it. Can't you just stop watching something on Netflix if it's boring? Do they tie you down and force you to binge-watch the whole thing if you dared to start watching it?

Now, I've never used Netflix so i don't know what it's like. If there are no advance reviews or the advertizing of new shows is poor or you only get alerted to stuff their algorithms think you like, then I can understand the frustration, but otherwise I don't see how this is a bigger problem with Netflix than with any other way of watching tv and movies. There's always a risk you might not like something after committing time or money to it. I'm having a bit of a "Just use the back button if you don't like the fic" reaction here.

When I'm making lunches to take to work, I undercook the veggies so they don't turn to overcooked mush when I re-heat everything in the microwave.

generally stereotypes are worse the more that they perpetuate long-standing and entrenched inequalities, prejudices, and power imbalances in society

It's schadenfreude for those of us who have come to have contempt for Blizzard.

Blizzard has, over the years, alienated so many of us non-dudebro players that the idea that Blizz has now displeased what's left of a good chuck of their playerbase fills me with absolute glee.

Okja, Stranger Things, and The Dragon Prince.

I am prepared to love the Saint Seiya remake, if it's halfway decent.

I knoooooow. Pol is one of my favourite fictional women to this day *g*

(Anonymous) 2018-11-06 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a shame they got rid of the character, but I think it was a smart move. People who get upset about these things are a small minority, but they are very loud on social media and are impossible to please. They are tyrants, as this secret reveals. It's not even enough to acquiesce to them; it must be on their terms. I can't blame the writers at all for not wanting to bother.

Or just don't show me the things that I disliked again. Why do they keep doing that to me?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-06 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I've not seen the movie, but I read the book not long ago, and while I appreciated it was well written, it wasn't to my liking and so I have no intention of checking out the film, regardless of what people say about it.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-06 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not that niche? Unless perhaps you are not in the UK. It was quite highly regarded and watched by many when it was on.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-06 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I had to watch it in one my my movie appreciation classes. I fucking hated it. I understand it's a cult classic but it was just awkward for me to watch.

Travelers is definitely top of my list, but also Jessica Jones and Orange is the New Black.

Okja was totally not how it was pimped out, but I still enjoyed it. Cargo was good too. I keep meaning to watch the Ritual.

Homer: Your old meat made me sick!

Apu: Oh, I'm so sorry. Please accept five pounds of frozen shrimp?

Homer: This shrimp isn't frozen! And it smells funny.

Apu: OK, ten pounds.

Homer: Woo hoo!
