The whole thing isn't very user-friendly.

My main peeve right now is that there's so much content, and whenever I look for something to watch I'm spammed with all this stuff I have no interest in. If I could permanently hide things (like movies with tom cruise in them) and make different lists for myself I'd like the service much better and find it easier to navigate.

Yeah, I like the "Don't show me this again" thing that (I think) Hulu has.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-06 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
OH my god.

This but with Adam Sandler movies.

Netflix has so many Adam Sandler movies and they do not understand that I will never want to watch a single fucking Adam Sandler movie in my life.

Oh god, this. I was scrolling through new releases or whatever and thinking holy crap, why so many Adam Sandler movies? Who needs this?

Or just don't show me the things that I disliked again. Why do they keep doing that to me?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-06 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
I agree. And I can't tell whether they're bad at making shows/movies, or if I'm just not in the right demographic, but it's frustrating because even things that sound good based on the synopsis, I often find annoying and turn off.

You can always wait a couple of months and see what people are liking and what not. That's the great thing about Netflix original, they are there foreeeeever.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-06 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
But their release schedule means that people usually stop talking about them fairly quickly after they come out.

You get a couple weeks while everyone watches the new season of GLOW, or whatever, and then they've watched it and they're done.

It frustrates me too. If something is especially good I might find out about it through friends but otherwise I might not have any idea. Also they seem to have a real thing for British police procedurals. I love them myself and Netflix has made one or two really good ones but they need more ideas.

(Or maybe it's just that I see them all the time because Netflix keeps recommending them to me...)

Don't know if this will work for you.

This is why I torrent from Netflix tbh

(Anonymous) 2018-11-06 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
Oooo How?

Same way you torrent anything else. People will rip from Netflix and post them around the web.

Wait but how does this solve the "no good way to get reviews" problem? It doesn't sound like the problem in the secret is not having Netflix, but rather not being able to know if stuff on Netflix is actually good or not.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-06 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
I assume that what it solves is the "paying for all the stuff on Netflix that you don't watch" problem

(Anonymous) 2018-11-06 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Nayrt

Isn't it just one monthly subscription for everything? When I had cable, I didn't care that there were bad shows on cable as long as there were good ones I wanted to watch to justify the cost. I also would just flip away from something if I wasn't enjoying it. Can't you just stop watching something on Netflix if it's boring? Do they tie you down and force you to binge-watch the whole thing if you dared to start watching it?

Now, I've never used Netflix so i don't know what it's like. If there are no advance reviews or the advertizing of new shows is poor or you only get alerted to stuff their algorithms think you like, then I can understand the frustration, but otherwise I don't see how this is a bigger problem with Netflix than with any other way of watching tv and movies. There's always a risk you might not like something after committing time or money to it. I'm having a bit of a "Just use the back button if you don't like the fic" reaction here.

It seemed like therre was a time when Netflix first started doing original shows, that all of them were outstanding. Now, there are so many and I feel like the quality has dropped.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-06 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
One of my frustrations is that Netflix's summaries are so bad, it's hard to get a good idea of what a show's really about and whether or not it's something I'll be interested in. I usually have to watch the trailer, if there is one. Sometimes there only have this... preview set to music and that's so goddamn unhelpful.

The previews set to music are dire. They make shows I know I love look unappealing.
