Yes. Barbequing or barbecuing is a cooking technique. Just like frying or baking. As a matter of fact, if OP said "BBQ" they would have to explain exactly WHAT they mean. Pulled pork? Ribs? Burnt ends? Hamburgers? Chicken? Hot dogs?? What kind of sauce? NC? SC? TX? KC? OP IS A FOOL! AN ABSOLUTE BUFFOON!

You can break them up into two pretty basic methods of cooking. Foods that are grilled are cooked quickly through direct contact with heat or a heated grill (hamburgers, hot dogs, sometimes chicken), and things that are BBQ'd are cooked slowly for a long time using indirect heat, often smoke (pulled pork, ribs, burnt ends, sometimes chicken, a bunch of other things).

There's a ton of different variations within each category but it's a pretty basic and fundamental distinction.

Okay but no one I know says, "Hey come over, we're going to have a grill."

I understand that BBQ as a food type thing (ribs, sauce, etc), but I also understand it as a vernacular of 'I am cooking food using my barbecue' so it seems weird to be upset when someone uses the term in that way. But then again, this is the pettiest hill to die on thread, lol.

But they SHOULD because it would be more clear and BETTER and I feel VERY STRONGLY ABOUT THIS

My family does? "Come over, I'm going to toss food on the grill." or something along those lines. We don't every say we're going to have a barbeque.
