Good question!

Because that would be gay, and the author is Mormon and extremely homophobic.

Did Meyer ever say that was why he liked her? I thought that was just a silly fan theory that wasn't taken that seriously. I can't stop my brain from nitpicking on the basis of how genetics and conception work.

I don't remember about the movie, but Jacob says something along the lines of, "The whole time it wasn't about you, it was about her", implying that he wasn't into Bella, but into Nessie, except he was into Bella before she got pregnant, so yeah. I dunno, the genetics in Twilight are stupid. Female vampires can't have babies because their bodies are frozen, but male vampires can make babies with humans, except they're frozen too, which made me and my friends wonder if Bella felt like she was being stabbed with icicles when they had sex.

That's true about the biology of the series. And apparently I forgot that line of Jacob's. Weird.

Eh, in the book there was definitely a strong sense of Jacob being fatefully drawn to Bella because of Renesme or whatever, which isn't strictly the same as being in love with the egg, but I think the general idea is still what Meyer was going for.

Right? RIGHT?

Ah, but while women are born with all the eggs they're gonna have in their life already made and sitting in the ovaries, sperm is only made like a week or so in advance. So maybe for like a week before the wedding Jacob was really attracted to Edward and super confused about it? Also hilarious, tbh.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-08 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Now I'm wondering how Edward's body could make sperm if he was supposed to be frozen in time due to being a vampire and all.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-08 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe he only has one batch of frozen sperm in his balls and that's it?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-08 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure the actual canon explanation was that that was the one load he had when he was turned. And it was still there because he never jerked off or had a wet dream at any point in the intervening hundred-odd years.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-08 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
No, she decided that they make venom jizz. Otherwise the vampire character who had multiple half-vampire children would be impossible.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-08 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, that was the explanation. It's always so much worse than you would imagine.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-08 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
i kinda doubt Meyer knows all that much about human anatomy or biology.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-08 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
I would love to have seen Jacob's fleeting attraction to Edward, tbh.

(Thank you for this biology comment!)

(Anonymous) 2018-11-08 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
YES. This is the headcanon I needed.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-08 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
It’s amazing how much that screenshot makes me shudder just because of the implications. Also ofc there was going to be no intentional gay because smeyer is Mormon even though she unitintentionally wrote a ton of gay subtext in Alice/Bella, Carlisle/Edward, Carlisle/Aro, and Edward/Jacob which each came off as weirdly more plausible than the love triangle or the canon relationships.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-08 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
There was so much gay subtext for Alice/Bella. They were actually my first f/f ship and I wrote a bunch of lousy fic where they ended up together.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-08 09:09 am (UTC)(link)
So, something good came out if it in the end after all.
