Hahaha, I'm sorry, op. This has got to be the UK, right?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-08 09:23 am (UTC)(link)
Japan was my guess.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-08 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, OP, I'm sorry. What kind of food do people mess up about?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-08 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Is it the UK, South Korea, or Japan?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-08 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Or Australia?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-08 01:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely not Australia. We couldn't care less and don't really have any precious cultural dishes. We will fight you over ownership of the Pavlova though.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-08 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Only the UK has enough of a stick up their ass about it to make a secret

(Anonymous) 2018-11-08 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Is it possible to even mess up UK food though?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-08 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Surprisingly, yes.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-08 09:29 am (UTC)(link)
Don't deny the rest of the world our butt sticks!

(Anonymous) 2018-11-08 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Bollocks, we make no secret of it. Try the French. Actually strike that, nor do they.

Tell us your food,OP! So we can do better. :D

Also - only tangentially related.... I adore watching 'Irish people try' videos on YouTube. They are,for the most part, hilariously cute.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-08 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Irish people try Canadian desserts was brilliant. They were so enthusiastic. Although I was surprised Nanaimo bars weren't a favourite.

Yes! Some are so fun.
But Irish People try American Pies was ridiculous. I've never seen such weird, gross, poorly made pies in my life.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-08 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
I avoid 'people try Australian food', because they're always gonna try vegemite, and they're pretty much always gonna hate it.
Also they usually don't serve it correctly, but w/e.

I like watching the videos for *other* countries, though!

I think i've had vegamite, or something very much like it. It was *extremely* salty, but i could see it being okay on the right bread or something.

But yeah -a big spoonful of it or something wouldn't be cool.

The one time I saw my country used as a setting for something worth noticing, it was the food that made me cringe.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-08 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
What do they get wrong about the food, OP?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-08 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Every time BuzzFeed does one of those quizzes where you have to pick from food that is supposedly the food of my people...I've never heard of, like, half of them.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-08 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Every time I click on a thing about French food, I have to brace myself for how angry I will be when they inevitably include creme brulee. It's not French!

(Anonymous) 2018-11-08 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
It is.

NA

The earliest known recipe for crème brûlée appears in François Massialot's 1691 cookbook Cuisinier royal et bourgeois.

I know what you mean... I'm generally fine with it, but media loves to make my country a joke it seems...

(Anonymous) 2018-11-09 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that's probably true of everybody. If I started listing everything people got wildly wrong about Chicago while writing Due South fic, I'd be here all day.
