Good News Thread!

My nephew was born this afternoon!

What good news have y'all got to share?

Congrats!

I bought a really cool dragon on Flightrising. Does that count?

Also, my kitty licked me this morning, and she never does that.

Sometimes it is the little things.

Finally, the Democrats have retaken the House. And, while I'm terrified about who Trump will replace him with, Jeff Sessions being gone is still a good thing because he was really terrible and outright evil.

Thank you!

If you think it counts, it definitely counts.

I love kitties, especially when they're affectionate.

And YES, turning the House blue & getting rid of Sessions.

My kitty is not super affectionate, so every little bit really stands out. She usually is more subtle with her love. But I feel it when she slow blinks at me and settles herself at my feet to sleep at night.

Also, 7 governorships and a bunch of state legislatures.

Here's some background on Matthew Whitaker, the new Acting Attorney General:

1991 - Graduates from University of Iowa with a BA in Communications. Big football star while there.
1995 - Graduates from University of Iowa with a dual MBA/JD.
1996-2004 - Works in various Iowa law firms doing corporate law.
2002 - Runs for Iowa State Treasurer as a Republican. Loses.
2004 - Appointed to serve as U.S. Attorney for Iowa by George Bush. Serves until 2009. During his time as U.S. Attorney, he was accused of indicting a Democrat for extortion for political purposes. The Democrat was found not guilty.
2011 - Co-chairs Rick Perry's Iowa Presidential campaign efforts, after briefly working on Tim Pawlenty's campaign.
2014 - Ran for Iowa Senate and was defeated in the primary, coming in fourth.
2014-2017 - Works at a law firm while also serving as Executive Director of a conservative watchdog group, the "Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust" (FACT). FACT, like Judicial Watch, was funded by conservative donors and filed multiple complaints against Democratic politicians on alleged campaign finance violations, including Hillary Clinton.
2017 - Opines frequently about the Russia investigation, including a CNN Op-Ed entitled "Mueller's Investigation is Going Too Far," which says that Mueller would be crossing a "red line" if he investigates the President's finances.
2017 - Appointed as Jeff Sessions' Chief of Staff. Last month, White House Chief of Staff John Kelly described him as the White House's "eyes and ears" in the DOJ.

Eek. What a shitty history (and ugh that he's from my state). Hopefully something will keep him from touching the Mueller investigation.

Don't mind Sessions going, but the reason he effectively got sacked was he wasn't kissing Trump's ass with enough tongue, and will be replaced with someone less competent and fully on board with covering up for Trump.

Aw, congratulations, nonny!

I went to a concert on Monday and got some really great videos. I've been sharing them with my friends and they've all been very patient with me as I talk their ears off about how good the show was.

Thank you!

Whose concert was it?

Mike Shinoda's.

This is way more selfish than your awesome news, but I’m going to Comic Con. Also the Democrats retook the House, phew!

That's awesome! I would love to go to Comic Con.

Congratulations!

As for me, the store manager complimented me while introducing me to a new employee. It's nice to know I'm appreciated.

Being appreciated is definitely one of the best feelings.

Congratulations!

I'm going to work overtime on Thanksgiving. That is good news because I volunteered to do it and it will be nice to have the money. (Also it's a nursing home so it's not like they have the option to be closed.)

Thank you!

More money is always nice, and I'm glad to know you'll be helping to brighten the Thanksgivings of the residents.

Aww, congratulations to you! Has he got a name?

My week's been kind of crummy so my best news is that I'm knitting a scarf for my partner's mum for Christmas and it's looking so much better than my last knitting attempt.

Re: Good News Thread!

(Anonymous) 2018-11-08 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! He does have a name, but his parents have asked that it not be shared online.

What color is the scarf you're making your partner's mom?
