I get the opposite being in New York state. A lot of people have no idea how rural and conservative many parts of the state are because all they think of is NYC.

I'm a WNY person, and there are some very conservative areas around here. I know many, many people who get most of their news from Fox News.

Isn't this something that we could look at statistically? Like, rural/urban/suburban population statistics are a thing that should exist, right?

Oh yeah, this. Most people who haven't been to New York for themselves think that NYC = NYS. It's not the same at all. There are some people who live out in the sticks who are way more conservative than the people you'd run into in the liberal cities.
