Just that Texas is not one, unified thing. Actually, many of the cities are extremely liberal. It is the rural areas that fit more into the stereotypes.

Kinda similar with California. The whole state isn't liberal and there are some very conservative areas.

I'm in California too and I agree - that is something a lot of people get wrong.

In fictional settings I feel some people think Los Angeles has is mostly beachfront property and everyone is living on the beach or at least going to the beach all the time. It takes a while (relatively speaking) to get to the beach from parts of Los Angeles and I can't remember the last time I was there.

I get the opposite being in New York state. A lot of people have no idea how rural and conservative many parts of the state are because all they think of is NYC.

I'm a WNY person, and there are some very conservative areas around here. I know many, many people who get most of their news from Fox News.

Isn't this something that we could look at statistically? Like, rural/urban/suburban population statistics are a thing that should exist, right?

Oh yeah, this. Most people who haven't been to New York for themselves think that NYC = NYS. It's not the same at all. There are some people who live out in the sticks who are way more conservative than the people you'd run into in the liberal cities.
