I have a phobia of storms;; irl it can be pretty bad, but I think the way I deal with it (aka hide in the basement, curl up and pretend it's not happening;;) helps with facing it on TV... Or rather it isn't so common a fear that it isn't often played as anything more than a backdrop. At least then I can do my best to ignore it, and focus instead on what's happening onscreen. I'm not sure if I just see it differently because it's not happening all around me, but even movies like twister don't trigger my fear because I know none of it is real.
I'll still avoid anything that focuses on thunderstorms, or tornadoes though;;

The only time I'll get legitimately upset is when they air the people stupid enough to 'chase' storms. I've never watched anything of the sort, for obvious reasons, but even hearing about it sends me into a near panic attack. Even writing about it makes me start to shake;; I can't even watch the weather network anymore because they suddenly decided to make it a 'reality' network, where they show Storm Chasers, and Worst Weather of the Week segments, rather than just tell me if I'll need an umbrella, or a coat, or ready a cowering session in my basement this weekend... Ugh... It really sucks...
