He has a fucking cool outfit.

IDK, there's been movies based on less

(Anonymous) 2018-11-11 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool outfit and mysterious background. Also, BOUNTY HUNTER.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-11 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm in the minority but I always thought his outfit looked silly. The helmet's kind of nice but the rest is very 70s (in a bad way). It looks junky. I'm just so surprised that so many people seem to think it's so amazing that they produced an entire civilization around it.

I like that it looks junk-y

and also, he has a jetpack. that's gotta count for something

(Anonymous) 2018-11-12 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
JETPACK! :) :) :)

I saw it on display years ago and that green drape hanging from his left shoulder was just an old army shirt with tears in it. (Literal junk!) To be fair, a lot of the original trilogy costumes look ridiculous up close. They weren't lavishing the kind of budget on costuming as in the prequels.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-12 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
it was supposed to look junky. The original trilogies aesthetic was... grunge. They marched over uniform costumes for hours to make them look lived in.

The EU made it out that Boba was the last of his "kind" and had put together his armor from bits and pieces of other armors he'd salvaged and decorations like the cape and braids were trophies from bounties. The Mandalorians were a very specific culture, one that had been almost wiped out. (As far as I know, this was before Jango Fett and the idea of the clones being Jango Fett had been thought up.)

You misunderstand. I don't mean the fact that it's scratched and dented. I mean the whole ensemble looks dorky. It's akin to Dengar's getup. I think Vader looks dorky too. I understand what they were going for but that doesn't mean it works. It looks stupid, and I've thought that for decades now. You can make a pieced together outfit and still make it look badass. Boba Fett does not look badass. He looks silly.

And there were tons of Mandalorians in the old EU.

His ship was a lot cheaper and somewhat cooler than the Millenium Falcon playset.

I find a lot of Disney's choices baffling. None of the Star Wars fans I know were anxious for a Boba Fett movie, and I'm including some 40 year old guys in that. Same with the purported Jabba and Yoda movies that were suggested. When it's clarified that it's actually an underworld movie, then that changes a few minds. Same with how people weren't anxious for a Han Solo movie but when it was called a heist movie, people were a bit more interested (although I don't feel the movie really delivered on that).

But people REALLY want Obi-Wan and there's no hint of that. At least they're finally finishing the Clone Wars since that's the other thing I see fans keep saying they want. I agree that listening to the fans isn't always the best but there are a couple things where it couldn't be clearer that there's considerable interest/disinterest.

I don't get why there's no Obi-Wan movie. Or even any plans apparently. That's the one movie where they wouldn't have to re-cast the lead as Ewan McGregor is the right age. And there's 20yrs between the 2 trilogies that we know nothing about. Surely someone can come up with a decent idea.

The only reason I can think of is that they really want absolutely nothing to do with the prequels and Ewan's Obi-Wan would make people think of them?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-11 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
A Boba Fett movie would be cool.

I used to think he was overrated until he was shown as a child in the Prequels and was given an interesting backstory.

I guess that it was mostly the guys who thought Boba Fett was badass. *shrug*

(Anonymous) 2018-11-11 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
SAME. He's such a minor character it made no sense that they were even considering a movie about him.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-12 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
I’ve always wondered what the Boba Fett hype was, as a causal Star Wars fan. Is it like, an Expanded Universe thing?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-12 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
I think it was mainly because he was this mysterious badass and that intrigued a lot of people. I believe thhere was some expanded universe stuff about him, and the prequels gave us some info on his origins, but that came after people got interested in him.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-12 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
I think it was originally the fact that he had a really cool toy, at a time when that was a huge thing for Star Wars, and then everything else came after that

(Anonymous) 2018-11-12 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
Way back when, in the 80s, they had a pretty cool toy that was, like, a big thing to people who were into that type of thing - I think it might have come with the Han Solo in carbonite one or if you had one, you wanted the other. But I also think it had something to do with the way Han reacted in Return of the Jedi. Like, there had to be more to that story.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-13 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
It mainly just started for two reasons - 1) He looked kinda cool and 2) the way Vader interacted with him in Empire Strikes Back gave the subtle implication that he was a badass and that the two had some prior history ("No disintegrations!").

Vader treats Fett with the kind of professionalism and respect that is only matched in the series by the way that he behaved around Moff Tarkin.

From Vader's words, Fett has apparently disobeyed or not quite met Vader's demands for a bounty before... and not only did he survive the encounter but also impressed Vader to the point that he has been hired once again. Even when Fett questions him in the carbon freezing chamber about freezing Han (potentially costing him the bounty), instead of threatening him or dismissing his concerns, Vader offers fair compensation. Contrast that with his treatment of his own officers, or with Lando.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-12 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Boba Fett was in the top 20 of the original Star Wars characters despite his lack of lines.

If it was a movie/series about Boba Fett taking down the bounty hunter's guild like he did in the Bounty Hunter Wars Trilogy, then it might be interesting. Otherwise, he's pretty much a loner. There would have to be a good reason for it.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-12 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
true although there's only really about 15 actual characters in the original trilogy to start with

(Anonymous) 2018-11-12 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
OMG, same!

(Anonymous) 2018-11-12 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I judge people who say he's one of their favourite characters. A robot that looks like a trashcan and communicates exclusively through beeps has infinitely more personality than Bobba Fett.
