Wait, then what *was* your point? (If you don't respond I'll assume you don't actually have a legitimate argument).

Point A (implied) is that there are just as many flawed and badly written male characters that don't get hate. Point B (explicitly stated) is that the bitching focuses on female sexuality rather than on the ways in which the characters fail to be well written. So all in all:

"Snide remarks about the other women" generally doesn't mean "well-thought out commentary on how the writers have failed the female characters".

I'm sorry Mylar fans are getting defensive. (and I say Mylar because every person who has missed the point has said "I'm a Mylar fan.")

Seeing as I'm not in Heroes fandom, hate Sylar in the two episodes of the show I have ever seen, and had to sit and think for a minute to even figure out what "Mylar" even was...?

ETA: Haha, see actually I was wrong! I thought "Mylar" was Maya/Sylar until I read someone else's comment. Though that does explain a few things. But yes. REALLY NOT A MYLAR FAN.

LOL! See, this is why I hate squished up ship names. But yeah, Sylar/Maya is generally denoted as "Saya." Which personally I think sounds really stupid, and it only takes about .5 seconds longer to actually type out "Sylar/Maya," but whatever.

You could have said this much more clearly in the first place - and you're talking about an extremely small minority and generalizing to refer to Mylar shippers in general. Hey wait, you were complaining about discrimination? What?

Plus I can't really respect you for not making "snide remarks about female characters" when you're making snide remarks to REAL people.

I don't make "snide comments" about character's sexuality, but if I did - they're FICTIONAL. They're not going to get their feelings hurt. Whereas you're bitching to real people and delighting in how upset you're making them. I don't see how you're the better person here.

Agreed entirely. There's nothing "few" about it. Unless, of course, all the people I saw calling Maya names like "bitch," "whore" or "slut," or making fun of everything from her dialogue to her accent, or saying "I hope Sylar fucks her then kills her!" etc, disliked her just because of her poor storyline. *insert sarcasm here*

Okay, where are these people?? I'm not an avid checker of the Mylar com, but all I've noticed there is some lighthearted "lol oh no not Maya and her drippy eyes." I haven't run into ANY of this stuff you're talking about. Links?

Most of the bashing I saw took place on the

heroes_sylar comm during the latter half of season two. I don't hang around Mylar comms, but I would wager it was even worse there. Here are some links. (Since the HTML linking apparently doesn't work on anonymous comments for some reason, I'll just copy and paste the URLS.)

As for the people making fun of her dialogue and accent, I never actually saw those comments myself, but some friends of mine saw them and vented to me about them. Apparently they were on the SArmy forums, but I don't know what that address is. I've also seen plenty of negative comments about Maya on IMDB, comments on E! online posts, comments on interviews, etc. It's all over the internet.

Anyway. I'm not saying that there are hundreds or thousands of people out there all making Maya voodoo dolls and fantasizing about her gruesome death, or anything like that, but hopefully those links at least give an idea of the rampant negativity surrounding her character.

But, the majority of those comments are from a few (stupid) people the rest of them are thoughtful and interesting comments. I really don't get the whole Mylar fandom is insane comments. In comparison to some of the really insane behaviour I've seen in fandom over the past 30 years this is

a. Quite mild
b. The views of a really tiny minority of, I suspect, immature fen.

Agreed. Out of all the fandom crazy I've seen, this isn't that bad at all. "Die in a fire" is a stupid insult, and I hate hearing people say it. But also, almost all of these commenters expressing wishes for Maya to die don't actually want to maliciously watch her to suffer and die a painful death, they just want her off the show, and that's how shows leave characters behind. Yes, there are a couple crazies, like you get in any fandom, but really nothing that would give me pause. Plus, yeah, when I don't like a character, and even when I do sometimes, I make fun of their little quirks too. For Michael on Lost it's yelling, "WAAAAALT! WHERE'S MAH BOY???" For Peter it's flipping the emo hair and saying really epically, "Tell me who I am. What the future holds." For Maya, it's, "You keeled my bro-thur!" (Which she does much more sexily than Peter says his facepalm-worthy dumb quote - I'll give you that).
