Humorous and widespread meme, not serious policy proposal

Yeah I really need people to recognize "jokes" before they submit secrets where they don't get it.

I live in Tumblr, the spawning pit of memes and where memes return to die, and I didn't recognise this as a meme at all. Maybe remember Poe's Law and try not to be a dick?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-24 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen it everywhere on Twitter

The original post, maybe. But you can bet your ass the replies are genuine.

This.

I don't think anyone involved actually wants to strip human rights from Reylo fans. There's shit-talking, and it's definitely rude, but I don't think that anyone actually needs to be educated in human rights the way OP says.

nayrt

I realize nobody was saying "I want legislation to be passed that if someone writes a Reylo fic they lose their right to free speech." But the comments display a serious level of hate which is disproportionate to the cause.

Not serious policy proposal, but they wish it could be that and are hiding it behind "Ummmm helloooooo, it's just a joooooooooke! Can't you take a joooooooke?" much same as dude bros defend their "jokes" like about telling women to get back in the kitchen.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-25 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
So do you think this is true for every one of the thousands of different groups that different people have used this meme about, or is it unique to this example?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-25 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Nayart

You're really asshole-ing it up today, aren't you?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-25 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
OK.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-25 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
"today"? LOL

(Anonymous) 2018-11-26 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Uhhh, no. Nobody is *secretly wishing* for people to lose human rights over shipping preferences. Jesus.
