There’s a lot of overlap. It’s not quite a perfect circle Venn diagram, but it’s really close. Also, I’m not a big Snape fan, but I find him less annoying than Kylo. Shame their hardcore stans are so similar.

Uh, the secret was about an anti-Reylo post. Not seeing any Reylo crazy here. Not that I disagree with you. I've seen lots of crazy in the shippers and the anti-shippers. But it is a little off-topic to go off on the shippers in a post about the antis being terrible.

I realize nobody was saying "I want legislation to be passed that if someone writes a Reylo fic they lose their right to free speech." But the comments display a serious level of hate which is disproportionate to the cause.

Honestly, I hated the very notion of Reylo after TFA, and though I'm now kind of ambivalent about it, I can understand why many people still hate it. That said, wow many antis sure do need to get some perspective and calm the fuck down. Even as a "joke" those people's comments are pretty messed up.

As a completely disinterested bystander, what exactly is the problem some people have with Reylo/s?

I haven't seen the Last Jedi yet so I don't have any strong opinion on this ship. My guess is that it's because Kylo is a very bad guy (some say he's a space nazi). But the shippers could like the idea of a redemption arc where he joins the light helped by his love for Rey or of dark fics where Rey turn to the dark side. Or maybe they ship Finn/Rey (I do).

I can’t speak for other people who hate Reylo. I don’t ship any competing ships, I just loathe Kylo Ren. I occasionally post about hating him here, or rant at other people who can’t stand him/Reylo, but I wouldn’t send Reylo shippers hate or post it to their tags or anything. I would avoid Reylo fandom entirely, but I only lurk on tumblr but don’t have an account myself, and some of the people I follow for other stuff are also big into Reylo.

I can only speak for myself, but for me, Kylo just rings a little too true. His embitterment, the way his alienation becomes anger and a political bent towards conservatism and/or anarchy and fascism, the way he exhaults and idolizes emotional hardness and the cruel and agressive use of power. It all just feels quite real. I've met a lot of guys who thought - and to some extent acted - like that. And there's certainly no shortage of political figures who think and act like that.

Yes, you could argue that every villain is a reflection of reality to some extent. But Kylo just feels unusually realistic in how he represents a certain type of attitude/behavior/mindset we're dealing with right now in both "big P" and "small p" politics.

That's why I can't bring myself to ship it, even though, yes, that fight scene was hot af. And that's why I don't sympathize with Kylo, even though he does embody certain "little boy lost" traits I'm often drawn to.

Oh! It gets worse. I remember Anti-reylos trying to say Reylos caused Carrie Fisher to die, and in heaven Carrie was hating them.

Like @ the people above going "smh, it's a joke." no, it's really not. The anti-reylos have really crossed lines. And I say that as someone who only watched the original trilogy and has no feelings about reylo.

it's shit like this that makes me hate antis so fucking much. They need to go find something better and more constructive with their lives other than hating on fictional characters and ships. Sure, I hate certain ships and characters, but I don't go and yell at people who like those ships and characters. They're such fucking children.
