I remember liking them as a kid, and honestly on re-watches they do have some moments that are cute, but Ross' insecurities over almost every little thing she did wore thin by the end of the show. I thought they did make good friends funnily enough, but not particularly good partners.

I think it's entirely plausible they they broke up a few months or a year after the finale because they were never able to make it work long-term. To me they were the classic rom-com ship just in TV form, they could do the will-they-won't-they and the Chase, but couldn't hold onto the Happily-Ever-After because they were ultimately incompatible.
