I think OP refers to the point where Noelle claimed that SU was forced to put Steven as a main character, because something something evil patriarchy conspiracy and Ian stepped in and said that Rebecca wasn't forced to create a character based on her brother.

It left a bad taste in my mouth for everything Gingerhaze has done. I gave new She-ra a try, but it's a grating mess and I gave up.

I don't remember her joking about it. At the very least, she was sincere enough about it that the SU staff felt the need to correct the record to her. That "guns blazing" approach to social justice never sat well to me, but I don't like judging people due to their old (at least 4 years old in this case) tweets. Anyway, haircuts aside, the new show does look neat. Maybe I can spare some time to watch it this week.
