One thing that goes back to the Fleischer era of cartoon animation that got picked up by Brad Bird and a large number of animators post-Bird is how characters should have distinctive silhouettes and body language. That's one area where the original designs really fall short.

That was on purpose: One body type = one mold = produce toys at a lower cost point.
