I agree with OP. It's really surprising that people say that She-Ra looks androgynous because this character is super female-coded in my eyes. Long hair, skirty skirt, smaller waist, etc. Do people really need to see the ( Y ) cleavage line in order to tell if someone is female-coded?

It seems like some people need obvious cleavage or they assume boy.

Goodness, it seems so! :(

Canonblind here but I wouldn't have called that a skirt? It looks more like a tunic over a pair of shorts to me because of the opening in the front.

Anon you're replying to:

I see it as a stylistic modification of the normal skirt + shorts combo that girls wear. You know for sure that if this combination was used for a male character, plenty of people online would complain (rather rudely/bluntly) about why the character is wearing a skirt.

I'll be even more blunt. If a person wearing that combination of hair, skirt, and shorts was perceived as male, they'd be a target for transphobic violence.

She-Ra looks a little bit androgynous to me, but Adora definitely doesn't. And I don't mind, in fact, I think it's really interesting.

I'd like to see more boy characters in Western animation who have such unabashedly long hair. I've only seen female characters have hair that long so to me there's not a single ounce of androgyny outside not seeing boobers.

Finn's long hair is glorious in Adventure Time. He doesn't have his hat off often, but when it does it's pretty much She-Ra level's of fluffy blond hair.
