The Mission

Ennio Morricone's greatest work, surely.

Josie and the Pussycats, obviously. XD

I guess most of my favorite soundtracks tend to be popular song compilations. If we're just going by original, instrumental fare, I would say anything by Alexandre Desplat (I was going to say the Moonrise Kingdom soundtrack, but looking at it, that also has a lot of other contributors).

Desplat did a great job on Moonrise Kingdom (and recently The Sisters Brothers).

The Hours OST by Phillip Glass. https://youtu.be/N4YuenZYHm0)

I really love the OST for The Road, although the title https://youtu.be/4gT6AnrDwew song is stolen.

The Land Before Time https://youtu.be/dVm_UNRgYMc OST is so damn good.

The OSTs for Braid https://youtu.be/TqOVpiXfq0o and World of Goo https://youtu.be/RTmNJUGqKL4, especially Are You Coming Home, Love MOM. https://youtu.be/MxI873dOYG8

The Power of One (1992, Hans Zimmer + others). Think of it as a prequel to The Lion King soundtrack (but it's better than The Lion King).

Examples:

The Rainmaker: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=I2zvd7OsGVk

Mother Africa: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=29cVz9cmyAs

Southland Concerto: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=O86lYE_brQQ

The whole thing is great. I can't remember which track it is, but there's a clip of music that got re-used in trailers for other things, including The Fellowship of the Ring.

Speaking of soundtrack music getting re-used, I've always loved the original Stargate movie soundtrack, and there was a time when that music was in *every* trailer, especially from the scene where Daniel gets dragged by the buffalo-thing and the part when Ra is about to be defeated.

John Williams is always amazing, even in his lesser known stuff. I've always been very partial to the Far and Away soundtrack. Empire of the Sun and A.I.: Artificial Intelligence are also great.

Zankyou no Terror, an anime with one of the most beautiful soundtracks I've ever heard!
