My experience isn't recent, but unless temp agencies have changed drastically, don't sweat it. You can google for one near to you and find out how to sign up. The one I used was this one:

They had me come in and fill in a questionnaire about what admin skills I had, how fast I could type, etc. You don't need prior experience, though I imagine it helps. If you know stuff like Excel and Word, that'll help, too. Then they give you a call if they find a position that'll suit you.

It sounds like you're psyching yourself out a little, so let me level with you - generally, expectations are super low when it comes to temps. Dress neatly and appropriately with good personal hygiene, be punctual and reliable and try your best. It may lead to a more longterm position, you never know.
