This usually does bother me but it doesn't with JJ. I think it makes sense because she is... you know... an FBI agent from the start, and because she left the team and then came back in a new role. It felt more well-established and organic because of that, as opposed to it just suddenly happening with no justification.

I don't watch CSI.

Yup. And also, Garcia isn't generally in the field, so it isn't like Criminal Minds has everyone going into the field. And, also, there was the whole issue with how the actress was forced out in the first place. They had to expand JJs role to get her back, and I'm happy they did.
