Honestly, I think JJ is great in the field, and I would much rather have seen Hotch move out of the field to spend more time with his kid after his wife was killed. Also, she'd previously been shown to be field-trained and perfectly capable, so it wasn't like you get in superhero canons where suddenly everyone has to get out there or they're not relevant. I hate that.
