I'm British. I found it a bit corny and forced but, when I sat back and thought about it, I was pleased about the image it portrayed as a show aimed at children. I think kids could do a lot worse than to follow this advice. I'm for it.

You think it's important for kids to learn that if an animal is badly wounded and dying, it's better to let it suffer slowly instead of giving it a quick, relatively painless death?

Just for people to put their fucking guns away.

... but the point is that sometimes, there are good uses for guns. Such as putting a dying animal out of its misery, as opposed to letting it suffer.

Which can only be achieved by guns, gotcha.

*Americans*. Sigh.

The show didn't exactly come up with any viable alternatives despite having a magical alien in a magical box with a magical sonic screwdriver. Remember, their brilliant idea that was considered more humane was to lock up all the smaller spiders in a panic room and... and what? What do you think is going to happen to them without a source of food or escape route?

The suffering animal was right there, and dangerous to approach. And there was a gun handy. This isn't about being American, it's about being practical and not letting one's pure, noble ideals get in the way of helping the suffering animal in the only way you can - by giving it a quick death as opposed to a long, painful one.
