Mortal Engines

Has anyone read the book? Is it any good? The trailers make the movie look cool. Also, Hugo Weaving. But I'm not sure if the story is any good.

I'd say it's well-written, but it's also super depressing with a major downer ending. I never read the rest of the series but I'm told that it gets even bleaker from there.
