Re: Drinking Scotch!
(Anonymous) 2018-12-03 07:21 am (UTC)(link)Something you may want to be careful around is anything that's strongly peated. That's a very acquired taste and definitely not for everyone. So most Islay Whiskys should be treated carefully because they tend to be heavily peated. (If someone tries to make you drink Laphroaig, be prepared for the taste of a freshly tarred road.)
I don't know about the availability/price range of most brands where you live. Based on your other preferences, I think Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban would be a nice one because it's kept in Bourbon casks and finished in Port casks. It's fairly expensive though. But in general, Glenmorangie is a solid brand.
Glenfarclas 10 year is nice as well to start out with. Since it's a fairly young one, it's usually not that expensive either.
Same goes for Edradour 10 year but it's probably more expensive because it's a pretty small distillery.
One brand that gets named a lot for starting out with single malt is Glenlivet but it tends to be a bit boring if not used to scotch. But to try it, the 12 year might be alright (I prefer the 18).
