I can barely handle shitty forced het romances in TV shows with adults, let alone the same with little kids.

I mean, it doesn't help that when it comes to shows about kids in general, I'm automatically going to assume I'll hate them until proven otherwise. There are definitely cases where romance can be cute in very small doses, but ~first crush~ shit is generally just cringey & awful.

It's weird when people say they hate forced HET romances. So you're ok with forced gay romances (and yes, they exist: look at Korrasami)?

NAYRT but it could be the case - just as an example - that forced het romances are much, much, much, much, much more common, and therefore more annoying even if they're not actually fundamentally worse.

Also I disagree with the other thing you said.

AYRT

Yeah, the anon above me basically covered it. It's far too common and has always been common since the dawn of romance stories/subplots, which can't exactly be said for same-sex romances (for obvious reasons).

Just because a man and a woman are standing next to each other does not mean they have to be in a romantic relationship, and especially not when they have next to no chemistry & no real purpose to actually be together other than some weirdass idea some writers have that a man and a woman can't simply be friends. I've seen it constantly since I was a little kid and I don't think it's strange to be more annoyed by that when explicitly gay romances remain comparatively very new to mainstream media, regardless of how they're written.

I can't speak for Korrasami since I've never watched Korra, and I definitely have seen some lgbt romances that kind of just seem like they're only there because "well these are the only two gay characters in the show so ... they're banging now," but honestly? I'm still just happy that they're allowed to exist in the first place without being censored / desexualized / forced into vague subtext like they have been throughout so much of history.

Because 1 example doesn’t outweigh the thousands of shit het out there /s

Also because lgbt romance has a much bigger hill to fight up to show up in the mainstream as opposed to a “he was a boy, she was a girl, can I make it any more obvious” crap het. I might not be happy over the shittiest written lgbt romance but as long as it’s not using homophobic tropes and writing I’ll be fine with it as opposed to tired old bad het drama.

Because heterosexual adolescent first love is something of a trope/cliche that gets shoehorned into a lot of stories, built around the myth that men and women can't be friends under any circumstances, and often serve as twue love "endgame" (*cough* Harry Potter *cough*).

Re: Korrasami: People emotionally hooking up after knowing each other for years isn't that uncommon and isn't at all "forced." Not all relationships are preceded by simmering unresolved sexual tension.
