Hard disagree, but you do you.

Same, OP. I was bored by the rehash writing in TFA. Wish they’d actually done something interesting with the awesome new characters. Really despised Darth-lite.

Agreed

I wish I had a clue what movies you were talking about, but the initials mean nothing to me so basically 'this Star Wars movie was better than this one!' and i have *no* idea.

I...don't really remember the newer ones all that well, anyway, so....
*shrug*

The secret is The Force Awakens (first appearance of Rey & co) vs The Last Jedi (newest film). It took me a moment to figure it out too.

Thanks!
I am so disconnected from all the new Star Wars movies anymore..... I still love the first three *a lot*, never really enjoyed the next three, and of the newest ones, really only liked the 'Rogue One' one. The others all kinda just blur together in my mind.

It's too bad, really. But...people enjoy them, so yay, but...i just can't bring myself to care anymore.

I'm pretty much the same as you. Love-love-love the OT to bits (particularly SW and ESB). I also loved Rogue One. But the rest have just clocked in at the just "like enough to watch in theaters", and never quite hit the active fandom-level love for me.

Except for Rogue One, I didn't even go to the theater for the new ones. I don't have the budget for more than a couple movies out a year, and those are not the ones I choose to see on the big screen.

Huh. I love both movies but TFA is my favorite of the two. Different strokes, eh!

(Anonymous) 2018-12-06 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
The only good things about TFA was the characters, and TLJ did every one of them better.

Except for Luke. I don't think that was better.

I loved both movies. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

(Anonymous) 2018-12-06 08:58 am (UTC)(link)
I like them both, but I do like TLJ better. Honestly, it's my favorite Star Wars movie, period. *shrugs*

(Anonymous) 2018-12-06 08:58 am (UTC)(link)
Count me as someone who hates TLJ but loved TFA. I don't think it's that hard to understand. Just assume what you like other people don't and vice versa. Simple as that.

I love TFA, but hard agree that TLJ took the characters to a new and fascinating level. I love shades of grey in my archetypal space operas!

TLJ took the characters to a new and fascinating level.

Yeah, TLJ made me wish that this trilogy was actually going to be a five part series, so that the characters and arcs would have more time to build on what TLJ started.

Whereas I liked TFA, but it didn't make me want more, more, more the same way TLJ did.

Me too - I feel like just one more feature length movie isn't going to be enough to explore all the richness; I worry about nuance being lost through rushing to wrap up the larger plot threads. Mind you, TLJ did a good job expressing a lot of character development in relatively concise scenes (mainly the Force Skype ones) so I should have faith.
