Re: Who Should Host The Oscars?

NAYRT but, is the AYRT right that it was something he said a decade ago? I mean, why even dig it up if he hasn't done or said anything recently that indicates he still feels that way?

Is it possible he dropped out less because he 'didn't want to give an apology' and more because of the ridiculous level of scrutiny involved in agreeing to the position?

It's not like the scrutiny was going to get worse than it already was

If he wants to stand on his honor and never apologize for anything that's his business but I don't think it's any unreasonable ask

Except according to the above anon, he did apologize, he just didn't do it in the performatic sort of way that the Oscar committee wanted.

He didn't apologize until the tweet where he announced he was stepping down as the host. Before that, he addressed it with a big long self righteous comment on Instagram, which is not the same as apologizing.

You do know he's apologised for them several times going back to 2010, right? And as recently as yesterday? He didn't give the apology the Academy wanted. He chose not to. He chose to step down and end the controversy because the last several years have been a shit show of controversies at the Oscars. He cleared the way for the chance of the next awards ceremony being about the people it's supposed to recognise and honour.

Honestly, I never in my life thought I would ever stick up for this man but I feel very strongly about applying today's ideals to the past and viewing who someone was as who they are.

To be clear, when you say he 'apologized yesterday', you're referring to his perfunctory statement in the same tweet where he announced he was withdrawing? And not his whiny Insta post about how unreasonable people were for having a problem with homophobia?

Oh I'm sorry, I mistook you for someone capable of having an intelligent exchange, I didn't realise I was dealing with someone who ignores facts and twists things to fit their agenda. You do you and I'm out.

If you'd like to tell me how I'm wrong, I'm happy to listen

Psssssssttt. If you want people to respect your facts and figures, you need to cite them first. People who are capable of having an intelligent exchange generally aren't fooled into thinking that a vague mention of the existence of proof = hard facts.

"You do know he's apologised for them several times going back to 2010, right?"

Citation, please? Let's leave out the most recent, since that occurred after the scandal and duress of being harshly criticized on the internet.
