Not the OP, but...why not? I think it's refreshing to see people defending her for a change. And it's certainly no worse than the 3895382423 usual Joker-related secrets, or Twilight secrets, or what have you.

(And besides which, that was technically a Dania secret, not a Maya one.)

I LIKE that people defend her. I just feel all these Maya secrets are actually arguments between a handful of people and not OMGSQUEE MAYA/DANIA. That's all.

I skip over Joker secrets because I haven't seen the movie yet. I will agree on the Twilight secrets though.

I wish I could be less defensive about Maya, but they are under constant attack in the fandom. Someone posts promo pictures of the entire cast? There will be people who complain about Maya being in some of the promo pics. Some of the DVD extras are about Maya's storyline? There will be people frothing with rage about it. Maya's name is mentioned? People will write that they hate her. There is a completely different topic, such as Nathan or Hiro'sstoryline? There will still be people trying to find ways to bash Maya.

There should be more "omgsquee Maya/Dania", I agree, but even that would draw reactions of "ZOMG I HATE HER WHY DOESN'T SHE DIE". No fun.
Besides, it's no secret that I like Maya.

As a Niki lover I totally sympathize on the character hate. Sometimes it's just too much and it's annoying as hell. So I totally see where you're coming from on Maya. I haven't made up my mind about her yet, but I do have several Niki-haters on my f-list and I have to bite my tongue when they go off on her. I've found that I just can't argue with them or change their mind. People are going to hate who they hate for whatever reason. (Though I find attacking the actress low, unless it's for something constructive, like her acting. I don't personally see her as a bad actress.)

I hope in S3 Maya gets more exposure and more fans. I honestly thought her storyline with Sylar was kinda hot, and I look forward to seeing how she does with Mo.

I agree with you that it's nice to see people defending her, but I think it's kinda sad that she needs defending. I'm a Heroes fan, but I don't really follow the fandom itself, for this exact reason. Waaaaay too much wank. (This coming from a Doctor Who fan, and few fandoms have more wank than DW...though I'm not really active in the fan community anymore, but I digress).

Maya was never my favorite, but I don't get the rampant hate. The fact that she, and particularly her actress, needs defending saddens me.

But it's strangely refreshing to have gone back to Heroes secrets as opposed to eleventy-seven Joker secrets. Le sigh.

Absolutely, but the reality of the situation in the fandom is that she does. And people should get called on bullshit like that. Pretending it doesn't happen means tolerating it.

It's been nice to see people defend her in secrets and comments, and that really made me regain some faith in people. Maybe it's a little annoying and repetitive, but it's not as repetitive and annoying as the Maya hatred that's been parrotted with growing intensity for the past twelve months in the fandom. It's fucking highly time that people speak up against it more vehemently.
