What series did you love at first, but as it went on you couldn’t stand it?

House. Bones. Supernatural. All shows that started out great but ended up ruining themselves (and surprisingly quickly at that given that for most of them, they went from a great season straight to a terrible one).

All of these. Also Heroes and Glee burnt themselves out super fast too.

The Walking Dead.

I think Westworld might be that next season. I didn't like season 2 at all. We shall see what happens with the next one.

House. Law & Order SVU. Shameless. (The UK version. I haven't seen the US version). I don't even think the show took a nosedive in quality but around the fourth or fifth season I realized I was forcing myself to keep watching it so I stopped. Inu-Yasha, though it was the manga rather than the show that I got tired of. I only vaguely know what happened in the rest of it and I don't care that much.

Once Upon A Time, Grimm, Supernatural. SPN was probably the worst but took the longest, while OUAT and Grimm both tripped over the ends of their first seasons and fell flat on their faces.

Same, OUAT and Grimm - I stuck Grimm for a little longer but yeah. Also Agent Carter, Wynonna Earp, I quit The Vampire Diaries and The Originals before the end, and a few others.

I'm 4 or 5 episodes behind at this point. What's happened? Has it seriously diverged from the manga?

I actually haven’t read the manga, but the general consensus seems to be that the anime has been very faithful to its source material. I just don’t get the point of this new villain and I wasn’t expecting the story to stay so grim, but that’s on me ‘cause I could’ve looked up how the story went before starting the show.

I feel *more* invested than I did at the beginning, but we have only two episodes left now and I'm pretty sure it's not going to end the way I want it to end so I'm readying myself for lots of tears.

My friend warned me about the series (I asked her for spoilers to see if I really wanted to watch it) and, even after mentally preparing myself, what happened to Shorter still made me ugly cry so hard.

Sweet baby Jesus, me too. I think it's part that the manga hasn't aged particularly well, and part that the anime simply is neither a particularly good adaptation nor a particularly good anime in the first place. I've gone from excited about it to indifferent to actively annoyed as of the last few episodes.

I wish they hadn't updated the time period because having the anime set in modern times just makes the fact that the story hasn't aged well even more obvious. I do think the animation is pretty nice overall and I love the music used in it, plus the sweet Ash/Eiji moments, but I don't think I'll be rewatching it.

Once Upon a Time. I quit about 2/3 of the way through season 3.

I mean, most things go severely down hill if they go on long enough. But I think that's honestly just a little bit natural and inescapable. IMO there's some kind of creative entropy that's almost inherent to stories if they go on long enough.

Whereas there are other shows that don't so much go down hill naturally over time - they just flop, or lose their way almost as soon as they find it.

Dirk Gently was an example of a show that I started to love, after S1, but then it just fell the fuck apart in S2. I mean, S2 was a MESS. (entirely IMO, of course.)

The one that really broke me heart was Sherlock. I loved episode one and I liked big chunks of S1&2, but then everything after that was just terrible, IMO. Like, I found S3&4 so bad it actually made me reevaluate some of the things I liked about S1 and 2, and realize that I was giving the writers too much credit for a lot of things.

Then there's main network shows like Lucifer and Timeless, that I liked at first. They were fun and they seemed to have potential. But as they went on, they proceeded to do all of the lazy, predictable, obvious sorts of things that I find so boring. It's a problem I have with almost all main network shows these days. They just feel really pre-packaged and bland to me. Even if there are ideas in the show that seem to have depth, in execution they usually lack nuance.

I was just re-watching the third ep of Sherlock S4 recently, and man, is it weird. I will gladly stan for that show all day long and I generally like S3 and S4 fine. I thought The Six Thatchers, at least, was kind of run of the mill and that made me wonder what people were complaining about with S4... but I somehow keep forgetting how weird that last episode was.
